VIDEO NASTIES
"APOCALYPSE NOW" - Francis Ford Coppola's famous multi-Oscar winning film was seized by Greater Manchester Police when it was mistaken for "Cannibal Apocalypse".>
"ZOMBIE FLESH EASTER" - This miss-spelling of "Zombie Flesh Eaters" briefly made it onto the 'Nasties' list as a seperate film!
"THE BIG RED ONE" - Truth or urban myth? Well it was printed in some magazines as being on the list. Supposedly, Sam Fuller's powerful, very personal (and almost bloodless) WWII movie was put on the 'Nasties' list due to it being mistaken for a *porn film*!
"LASSIE COME HOME" - Yes, that's right. You did read that correctly. Rumour has it it was mistaken for it's joke title, hard core porn, twin. (Something that still goes on today with films like "Saving Ryan's Privates" and "The Bare Witch Project").
"THE BEST LITTLE WHOREHOUSE IN TEXAS" This Dolly Parton/Burt Reynolds musical suffered the same 'cock up' as poor old "Lassie".
"AN UNMARRIED WOMAN" - This Oscar winning/nominated drama starring Jill Clayburgh and Alan Bates was seized in a sickening pursuit of a return to 'Victorian Values'! (You know, child labour, child prostitution, 'accepted' rape of Female servants by their employers...All those nice Victorian things).
"THE DEVIL AND MAX DEVLIN" - We end with one of the classics. Anti-censorship Journalist Liam T. Sanford in an attempt to prove that zelot Police forces would actually seize anything that even remotely resembles a 'horror' film, whether it was a 'Nastie' or not, made a false petition against this 'sick and horrific' film. Sure enough when the 'petition' was handed over to the local Police 'Watch Committee' several Officers were despatched to amused local Video Retailers who were ordered to hand over this offending title.
The film is in reality a 'PG' rated 'Disney' comedy starring Bill Cosby.
